Abdulrahaman Aliagan – National President, Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ)

Abdulrahaman Aliagan is a seasoned journalist, public relations expert, and development practitioner with extensive experience across print, digital media, strategic communication, and civic development. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Ilorin, a Diploma in Common Law from CAILS (affiliated with Bayero University Kano), and an Advanced Certificate in Journalism, Public Relations, and Advertising from the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ), Abuja.

A highly respected media professional, Aliagan is a member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) and the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ). He has served the Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ) as a Trustee and National Secretary before his election as National President. He is also a Trustee of the Association of Bloggers and Journalists Against Fake News (ABJAFN) and AL-BUSHRA Islamic Education Development and Awareness Foundation (AIEDAF), and currently serves as Director of Communications and Information of the Ashraaf Islamix Foundation.

Aliagan is the Managing Editor of Time Nigeria Magazine, Group Managing Editor of The PrimeTimes Nigeria (Online), and Publisher of ArtsDaily Nigeria, a history, culture, and tourism-focused online newspaper. His journalism career began at The Herald Newspaper in Ilorin and advanced through pioneering editorial and political reporting roles in Abuja-based national newspapers. He also served as Director of Communications for the Ibrahim Mohammed Ajia Campaign Organisation during the 2023 general elections.

Beyond the newsroom, Aliagan has consulted for international development and civil society organisations, including the European Union Agent for Citizen-Driven Transformation (EU-ACT), a British Council–supported programme, where he trained and developed organisational and media strategies for NGOs and CSOs across Nigeria. He has also worked with ActionAid Nigeria and Global Rights on governance, insecurity, and gender-related issues, bringing to his leadership of NGIJ a strong commitment to investigative journalism, accountability, and ethical media practice.
